THE DEMOCRATS ARE JUST AS GUILTY

I guess I understand even better now why Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard would like to keep the John Doe caucus scandal files closed.

As many of us already knew -- and the rest of you should know by now -- Assembly Democrats engaged in the same campaigning with state resources behavior as everyone else. And actually, with coordinating independent expenditures out of Shirley Krug's office, they seem to have gone even further than the GOP. Yesterday's release of testimony with the Jensen filing includes page after page of admissions of wrongdoing, by both staffers and leadership. Krug, Bjork, Raghu, Twigg, Richards, Goodwin, Kreuser, Pocan, Judge, graphic designers, and on and on. http://www.wisopinion.com/blogs/uploads/0601ADCsummary.pdf There is no distinction between what Republicans and Democrats did in the caucuses, other than perhaps relative levels of competence. So why has Jensen been singled out as the big baddy of the Assembly? Of course, Charlie Sykes has been railing about this injustice for years with little effect.

Does the release of this information make Scott Jensen innocent? Of course not. But it does underscore the blatant unfairness of this prosecution. And if "equal justice under law" is a principle that matters in Dane County, Scott Jensen should be told he's free to go on his way. But we all know that this district attorney and this circuit court system are not all that interested in equal justice. We can all now see the evidence with our own eyes, and any fair-minded individual would have to conclude that Jensen is being screwed and Krug is off the hook for doing exactly the same things. Was it because she's a Democrat that he did not pursue charges? Or was it just because Scooter is more hated?

And all of you self-righteous goo goo's out there should even be ashamed of this kind of selective prosecution. If 99% of the guilty parties receive no sanction, then how in the world can you justify bringing the hammer down on the 1%? I have no personal stake here, as Scott Jensen is no friend of mine. But it remains sickening to me that he has to take this bullet while everyone else hides away in the capitol. Mark Pocan doesn't remember any of his illegal activities, but it obviously wouldn't have mattered if he'd signed a full confession. He was not Blanchard's target, and neither apparently was Shirley Krug.

Just read the Dem testimony and explain to me why they shouldn't be in the same boat. I'd even be content with both sides out of the boat, just be consistent. Prosecutors shouldn't be able to crush political enemies just for fun, and excuse their friends with a blanket amnesty.

Comments:
Apparently Jensen has a case, based on Jeff Wagner's analysis of the issues.

So?

Are we looking for exoneration of Jensen for abuse of TAX DOLLARS?

Of course not. They should release all of the John Doe testimony and let the public decide who deserves removal or not. I've never claimed that his role was ethical or okay. The caucuses were corrupt enterprises run with the sanction of the state's top lawmakers. Expose the problem, eliminate it, and then let the public decide. Or, alternatively, go after all of the cheaters with equal zeal.
