Caucus investigation remains active one year after charges Artist's disk containing Democratic campaign materials turned in By AMY RINARD and STEVEN WALTERS arinard@journalsentinel.com Last Updated: Oct. 28, 2003
Madison - A year after two prominent Senate Democrats and three Assembly Republicans were charged in the Capitol fund-raising scandal, prosecutors said Monday that they continue to investigate possible illegal acts or misconduct connected to members of both parties.
Although previously mum about the status of the investigation, Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard said that his office is focusing on possible improper campaign activity on behalf of Assembly Democrats and Senate Republicans.
He noted that probes of illegal campaigning on state time by Senate Democrats and Assembly Republicans are closed.
Meanwhile, state Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager said Monday: "Our agents are still involved. Right now, the investigations remain ongoing."
